EASTER FAMILY WORKSHOP: EGGS AND BUNNIES!

WEDNESDAY APRIL 12, 14.00-16.00 AT THE WILLIAM MORRIS SOCIETY COACH HOUSE, KELMSCOTT HOUSE

Come along to our Arts & Crafts workshop with an Easter theme! A workshop in two parts, for children age 6-12.

In the first part, make an Easter egg decoupage: paint your own polystyrene Easter egg and then discover the art of decoupage to decorate it using cut-outs from various types of paper using ideas from William Morris’s famous bird and flower designs.  Then in the second part, make your own Easter rabbit mask with inspiration from William Morris’s own Brother Rabbit design.

All materials are supplied and you will take home your Easter creations.

Refreshments (squash & biscuits) provided after the first part. Please note that children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Price: £5 per child (plus booking fee).

A Georgian Easter & Teddy Bears Picnic

We are turning back time at John Wesley’s House!

John Wesley will be upstairs in his study, help Betsy the Housekeeper with her chores and taste some of the wonderful 18th century treats being made in our kitchen by the Cook!

Upstairs in the house there will be make and take crafts where you can make paper windmills, paper baskets and Easter hats!

Please note that Wesley's House is not wheelchair or buggy accessible as it is a 300 year old Georgian terrace house with lots of stairs. Visit www.wesleysheritage.org.uk for a virtual tour. However there will be space to leave buggies at the entrance of the house or inside the chapel. Our museum and chapel are accessible for wheelchairs and buggies.

Talks

Beyond the White Cube

This half-day symposium uses Paul Coldwell’s current exhibition at the Freud Museum, Temporarily Accessioned: Freud’s Coat Revisited as a starting point to explore artistic interventions inside and outside the Freud Museum

The Freud Museum is the antithesis to the concept of ‘the white cube’, a space stripped of references wherein artworks can be viewed without distraction. Here the artist has to fight for space and compete with an environment not only rich in material possessions, but also in the stories that it fosters. This symposium considers ways that artists and curators have approached this challenge and how increasingly, digital media has become part of an artist’s studio practice.
